21 days of affirmation-Day 17: Grow where you are planted. 

How many times have you been scrolling you Facebook timeline and have come across a friend’s post about all of the wonderful things that are happening for them, and thought “Wow, I can’t wait until God blesses me like that”. Or as your thumbs are smoothly pressed against the glass of your smart screen you double-tap an Instagram post of another beautiful vacation that your friend has taken? Another one? Man. And you haven’t had one in.. wait, when have you ever had one? Hmm.

I’ve done it. We all have at one point or another.

Well anywho, if you let these comparisons infiltrate your spirit, you then become discontent with your life. Don’t let social media take the focus off of the purpose of this season of your life. Because your life looks like a messy living room, super hyper kiddos and a 6×6 gray cubicle at a place that brings home a paycheck.

STOP!!!!!!!! I want you to stop doing the one thing that is causing your inner happiness to go bye-bye: Comparing your life to others.

Listen, we all have a purpose for our life. It may take you a while (*ahem* or 34 years) to figure it out, but trust me you will. Until you do, I want you to remember something, things WILL happen for you, in HIS timing. Who cares if you you are living in an apartment right now, but long for a custom built home one day? You shouldn’t. Why should it matter that you are driving a “not-so-nice” car at the moment, but you want a “2017 something”? Because so and so has one? That’s shouldn’t matter either. Or you are divorced, but desire for a life long commitment again? Wait honey.

Here’s what I want you to do, today: stop comparing YOUR life, YOUR journey, YOUR current situation with someone else’s that honestly you have NO idea of all it took to get where they are. Yes, I said it. Stop it! Some people have sacrificed a lot to have that home, that car, that dream job, THAT good marriage. Some of which they may never share, and that’s ok too. If it is what you desire as well, pray for God to show you if that is also what HE has for you, and ask how HE wants you to go about getting to that place. But before you do any of that, stop and thank him for where he has planted you RIGHT NOW.

I know it is cliche, but count your blessings. That messy kitchen proves that you have a place to cook and eat meals, some do not. Those children that are acting, well, you know.. Proves that God entrusted you enough to be a parent, some do not have the opportunity. That Husband that snores and wakes you up several times a night, Welp! It proves that you have someone loving to come home to, each and every night.. Even if you do have to plug your ears, some will never experience such a love.

My point is this:  It’s good to dream, to want better for yourself or family, and to pray for increase. But maybe it’s just not time for you to have those things yet, and know that it’s ok. Maybe God is growing you in areas that you didn’t even know that needed growth, pruning or maturity so that when he blesses you with the desires of your heart, you will be ready to receive them. So if you want to be somewhere other than where you are now, you must first master the level that you are at in this thing called life. Don’t let what others have take the focus off of what you have in front of you at the present time. Be content. And remember to grow where you’re planted, because every flower started as a seed.
